Renaissance Educational Scholarship


Mission:
Created in 2008, the mission of the Margaret Helen Paul Renaissance Educational Scholarship is to encourage the educational activities of the renaissance and acting community by supporting the financial needs of citizens within the these communities. The MHPS assists those who demonstrate strong acting skills, desire to promote education of the renaissance time period, or those who provide a service to the community.

Values and Principles:
The Margaret Helen Paul Scholarship will:
  • Treat all applicants equally with dignity, respect and compassion regarding their financial needs
  • Provide financial aid without discrimination
  • Practice excellent stewardship for all donating sponsors
  • Promote open door communication with the public
History:
1987 through  2003, Margaret Helen Paul was a member of the Society for Creative Anachronisms.  During this period, she was able to teach her love of Medieval and Renaissance History to children in schools and to the public.

2002 through 2007, Margaret Helen Paul was a member of St Elizabeth's Guilde.  During this period, she was able to further improve her knowledge of the Renaissance period, develop her acting skills, and increase her costuming skills.

2007, David Aaron Calvert and Margaret Helen Paul created and established the Ambassadors of St. Peter and Pirates of St. Pete actors guild to promote positive acting experiences and education focusing on the Elizabethan Renaissance period between the years of 1570 through 1585.

2008
The Ambassadors of St. Peter Actors Guilde received it’s non-profit status.  Margaret Helen Paul Scholarship was created to honor those individuals who were deserving citizens within our renaissance, acting, and service communities.

Statement of Guidelines:
Margaret Helen Paul Scholarship will identify and evaluate all applicants based on academic performance, community service, family values, and financial need. All academic scholarships will be disbursed directly to individual student. MHPS does not discriminate based on race, color, creed, nationality, age, gender, sexual preference, health conditions, or martial status.

The Margaret Helen Paul Scholarship may be awarded to persons in the following categories:
Renaissance Fair Guilds
Margaret Helen Paul Scholarship will provide financial scholarships to start up and maintain existing actors’ guilds.   

High School/College Students
Financial scholarships to high school/college students seeking education in the field of renaissance acting, stage production, or participation in California based renaissance fairs.

Renaissance Fair Community Aid
Financial assistance to individuals within the renaissance community based upon financial need.

Service Community Aid
Financial assistance to groups (such as Safe Houses) within the service community based upon financial need.

Eligibility
Eligibility is determined by the following criteria:
Renaissance and Pirate guilds will be selected by financial need and educational history.
  1. Applicants who have an existing guild must plan to use the funds to support their guild by advancing the renaissance period through the development of educational strategies at the renaissance fairs.
  2. Any applicant who is a prospective guild must provide a signed letter stating that the funds will be used to create an educational guild with detailed educational strategies for the paying customers at renaissance fairs.
High school/college students seeking higher education to approved and accredited academic institutions will be selected by financial need and academic history.

  2. Displays leadership within current academic environment
  3. Promotes leadership within the community
  4. Demonstrates personal development, achievements, and accomplishments
Renaissance community service aid will be determined by financial need.
  1. Promotes and displays leadership within the renaissance community
  2. Practices and promotes strong renaissance educational values

Service community aid will be determined by financial need.

  1. Promotes and displays leadership within the service community
  2. Practices and promotes strong community service values
