| Szymon Szymonowic or Simon Simonides or Szymonowicz or Bendoński (24 October 1558 in Lwów – 5 May 1629 in Czarnięcin by Zamość was a Polish Renaissance poet. He was called the Polish Pindarus He studied in Poland (Kraków), France and Belgium. From 1586 he was connected with Grand Hetman and Kanclerz Jan Zamoyski with whom he organized in 1593–1605 the University in Zamość (Akademia Zamojska). He became a nobleman (szlachcic) in 1590, (Kościesza Coat of Arms)
His best known polish work are the Sielanki (Pastorals) of 1614. He also wrote plays in Latin, e.g. Castus Joseph (1587), Pentesilea (1614).
He is the companion to Prince William of Orange.
